So I just recently got 5th Cell's Scribblenauts the other day, and to be honest, I was a bit dissapointed. I mean, it's really cool and awesome that you can summon up pretty much every item known to Man, and it feels great to see anything you want pop up right in front of your eyes. It's the highlight of the game, after all. But my main complaint is the control. You control Maxwell, the main character, by holding the stylus against the touch screen, and he automatically jumps when close to an obstacle. This poses a problem when you want to push a crate, or something. Also, he moves in really large quantities, like when I want to only take small steps to the edge of a lava pit to grab a rope, he sprints forward and auto-jumps into the lava. Camera control is a pain, too. You move the camera using the D-Pad, and can see the entire stage by scrolling it. But it auto focuses on Maxwell at the least convenient of times and I often move Maxwell instead of the item I want when the camera's not on him, causing accidental death. If the player was controlled by the D-Pad insead of the touch screen, it might be a bit better. Projectile weapons are annoying. Guns, especially. Anything can block the way, and your gun or whatever breaks after a couple shots, depending on the weapon. Interaction with items is pretty long, like operating a vending machine, or igniting an explosive, and thats a bit annoying. There are 2 modes in the main game: Puzzle Mode, and Action Mode. Puzzle Mode basically puts you in a situation that involves creative thinking, and it's my favorite mode. Action Mode has you run around and search for the goal instead, and with the said controls, it makes it harder. Vehicles are a pain too. You can't move anywhere without flipping over again and again. Item Summoning, like I said before, is cool, but sometimes you have to be pretty specific. For example, the normal bridge you can summon is pretty small, but I usually summon a Bridge Ladder for a really long one. The problem is, sometimes I write Ladder Bridge instead, and it summons a small bridge. Some times it takes just a teeny little adjective to change an entire item, and you don't even know if it'll work or not. Item to Item interaction is pretty cool. Drop a toaster into the lake, and it'll kill the shark in it, Hook a Car to a Dead Car via wires, and it'll work, Showing Medusa a Mirror and watching her turn to stone, It's pleasing to see something turn out the way you want. Overall, Scribblenauts is an Okay game, but could use a lot of polishing here and there, but it's too late unless they make a sequel. And that's my review.
I give it a Seven point Five out of Ten.
9/24/09- I realized I forgot to add the star on his sweatshirt. I'll put it in if I have time.
I was really looking forward to this game but was also disappointed by it. I would have been motivated to play it more if there was a story behind it other than "collect the starite".
Anyways, I've got the game on the R4 (where you just download it free off te internet). I'd agree with you on most points, and I know how you feel about the accidental deaths ¬.¬
Ever tried summoning a chaingun? They're extremely useful - though you have to activate it, it shoots unlimited ammo and you don't have to hold it
Transformers are cool too - I get endless fun watching people get shocked. I'm easily entertained.

Renting? Yes.
Maybe I'll like it better though.
